John of Gaunt (1340-1399)

John of Gaunt of King of Castille and the son of King Edward III and Philippa of Hainault. He married Lady Blanche, Contancia Duchess of Lancaster and Katherine Roet.

After an era of royal restrictions and economic hardship following the black death and legislation passed by parliament limiting wages without regulating prices, there was a Peasants Revolt in 1381 against the government policies of John of Gaunt.

When Henry, Duke of Lancaster died in 1361, his estates including Pontefract Castle, passed to John of Gaunt. John of Gaunt became guardian to his nephew Richard II, (the son of the Black Prince) and virtually ran the country.

John of Gaunt had his nephew Richard II of England declare the Beaufort children legitimate in 1390, with the important proviso that they were barred from the succession to the throne, despite being the grandchildren of Edward III of England.

Elizabeth Limb, daughter of James and Hannah Limb was born in Long Stutton, England, Dec. 21, 1829. At eight years of age, she came with her parents to New York, then to Quincy, Ill., where she grew to womanhood and was married to Albert Jefferson Hoisington Dec. 19, 1845. They moved to New Jefferson, Iowa in 1855 and in 1859 they moved to Crawford township, Madison Co., Iowa where they lived ten years, then to Union township where they resided until the death of her beloved husband Jan. 27, 1909. She passed her remaining days with her daughter, Victoria Johnson, of Union township.

To this union were born nine children: Isaac Dwifer, deceased; Andrew Jackson, deceased; Victoria Johnson, of Madison Co., Iowa; Elizabeth Etchison, deceased; Sarah Matilda, deceased; Albert L. of Linn--, South Dakota and James of Ord, Neb. She leaves to mourn her loss four children, 24 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and one brother, Joseph Limb of Stuartville, Mo.

She was converted at eight years of age and confirmed in the Episcopal church when fourteen. At twenty she with her husband united with the Methodist Episcopal church and has since been a faithful follower of Christ. Her life has been one of self sacrifice and an example in many ways always trying to help others live a true Christian life. She will be missed by all who knew her, her courage was never failing.

Her last hours of this life were spent in peaceful sleep and passed to her reward in heaven at 8 o'clock Fri. morning, April 8, 1910, aged 80 years, 3 months, and 17 days.

Funeral services were held at the home of Sam. B. Johnson April 10th at eleven o'clock, conducted by Rev. Clearwater. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Jefferson cemetery. The relatives present were the four children, two daughters and two sons, and an only brother, Joseph Limb, of Stuartville, Mo. Also a number of grandchildren.

Edward Clay Hoisington was born to Horace Clay and Julia Mae Playful Hoisington. He lived most of his life in Rutland, Vermont before moving to Nassau, Florida where he died in 2004. Edward was a veteran of WWII and his name is on the Bridgewater Veteran's Memorial Marker (shown).

Benjamin Church (1639-1718)

Benjamin was a famous Indian Warrior and historian of the Indian Wars. He was wounded in the Narragansett Swamp fight 19 Dec 1675. He was an organizer of the attack on King Phillip which resulted in the death of the great Cheiften near Mount Hope 12 Aug 1676. He was one of the proprietors of the Mount Hope purchase, called Bristol. He was a representative to the general court of Plymouth County.

Benjamin was born in Plymouth to Richard and Elizabeth Warren Church and died in Little Compton, Rhode Island. He married Alice Southworth in 1677 and they had 5 children.

Elizabeth was the daughter of a Prussian immigrant, Bernard Eseke, and Sarah Spring of Massachusetts.

Elizabeth had 8 children, however 2 died as babies and 1 died at the age of 16. Her husband, Alexander Stockdale, preceded her in death by 19 years. He was a well-known agri-businessman in Walcott, IA along with his partner Philip Dietz.

Daniel Bradford Badger

Daniel was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Erastus Beethoven and Francis Babcock Badger. He started his career as a copper smith and worked his way to owning a copper manufacturing company. The Badger family is well known in the Boston, MA as copper smiths and much of their work can be seen on the towers and tops of many buildings.

Daniel married Elizabeth F. White, born in New Hampshire. He and Elizabeth settled at 12 Prospect St in Winchester, MA where they raised 3 sons. They had a large enough home in 1930 that their house held two of their son's families and servants! Shown is a picture of Daniel from 1924 taken for his trip to England.

Aaron Rumsey (1797-1864)

Aaron Rumsey following his ancestors' footsteps who were tanners generation after generation. However, Aaron took the business a step further when he settled in New York and began a manufacturing business.

Aaron was born in Hubbardton, Rutland, Vermont and at the age of 18 walked from Vermont to Warsaw, New York. He married Sophia Phelps and in 1824 they relocated to Westfield, New York. 10 years later the family moved to Buffalo, New York. Aaron and Sophia had two sons who were both prominent citizens of Buffalo. Bronson Case Rumsey was the first President of the New York, Buffalo & Philadelphia Railroad, as he and his brother Dexter Phelps Rumsey partnered with the Vanderbilt family.

Aaron was referred to as a 'staunt Presbyterian'.

Ruth R. Rumsey was the daughter of Dexter Philips and Susan R. Fiske Rumsey and the wife of William Joseph Donovan (Wild Bill). Ruth and William married in the summer of 1914 at St. Joseph's Cathedral on Franklin Street in Buffalo, NY. The ceremony was performed by Bishop Quigley and the reception to follow was held at the Rumsey mansion, where the couple also lived briefly. Ruth was described as "patrician-looking" and a "willowy blonde.

John Opdycke (1710-1777)

John was born to Albert and Elizabeth Opdycke in Hopewell, NJ. He married Margaret Green. John and Margaret lived in Amwell, and raised a family of nine children. As one of our pioneer settlers, John Opdycke did a lot of building, starting with the mill at Headquarters, and a mill on the Wickecheoke, and two handsome stone houses, one at the covered bridge and one at Headquarters (Washington's Headquarters!), and finally a stone house on the Skeuse farm where he lived during his later years. John Opdycke was Constable for Amwell in 1744, Chosen Freeholder 1750-53, and a Justice of the Peace in 1755 and probably every year thereafter until his death. He was a member of the Amwell Township Committee from 1773 to 1776, so he was very much involved in the lead-up to the Revolution and was laster elected official in Amwell during the Revolutionary War (1777).

John Eddy was born in Cranbrook, Kent, England to William and Mary Fosten Eddye. He immigrated in 1630 on the Handmaid to Plymouth, Massachusetts and resided in Watertown thereafter. There, John was an accepted member of the Watertown Chuch and was granted a dividend of 50 acres.

John Eddy married twice. His first wife was Amy Doggett, also from England and his second was Joanna Bates. John had 8 known children.

Jan Thomasse Van Dyke (1605-1673)

Jan was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands and was one of the Dutch founders of New Amsterdam, now New York City. He sailed to America on the De Bonte Kou with his wife, Tryntje Archias Haegen and their 6 children. After he arrived in New York in 1652, he settled into the newly formed New Amsterdam and owned 50 acres of the 1000 which the town was built upon.

He was a magistrate for Fort Orange and New Amsterdam in the years 1657, 1660, 1661 and 1673. Active in the affairs of the New Amsterdam Colony from the beginning, he received honors and appointments under its government. On August 18, 1673, was appointed by Governor Colve as one of the schepens or judges.

Jeremiah Day (1773-1855)

Jeremiah was born to Jeremiah Day and his 3rd wife, Abigail Noble. He was born in New Milford, CT but lived most of his life in New Haven where he was the President of Yale College, now Yale University. He graduated from the college in 1795 and was a Reverend in 1817.

Jeremiah married twice. His first wife was Martha Sherman and his second was Sarah Coit.

Lester was born to Lester Esaias and Hazel Samantha Graffius Atkinson in New York. He lived in Elmira, New York during his lifetime. He was an air conditioning electrician and a loving husband to Marjorie Lucille Cole who he met after serving with her father, Douglas, on the USS Gainard during WWII.

Lester and Marjorie were married in Central Methodist Church in Endicott, NY at 8pm in a candlelight Service (they were common at the time, a reception was held afterwards). They took their honeymoon in the Arlington Hotel in Binghamton, NY, borrowed a car and traveled to Montrose, PA the next morning. Along the way they ran out of gas (a trick played on them by Marjorie's brother Doug).

The Beauforts gained entry into the royal succession when John of Gaunt's great-great granddaughter, Margaret Beaufort, married Edmund Tudor whose son became Edward VII, thus beginning the ruling Tudor dynasty.

Margaret was the daughter of John and Eleanor Beauchamp Beaufort, born in Befordshire, England in Bletsoe Castle. She is buried at the Westminster Abbey.

Timothy Donovan (1825-1895)

Timothy Donovan was an Irish immigrant from Cork, Ireland who arrived in New York before 1853. He settled in Buffalo, New York where is was a saloon keeper and with his wife, Mary he had 8 children. Timothy is a ancestor to the well known Wild Bill Donovan.

In the picture is Timothy Donovan with some of his children (possibly Margaret, Francis and Mary in the back row and Billy and Tommy in the front row.

Benjamin T. Rhoads (1819-1909)

Benjamin was born in New York City where he lived most of his life until later moving to Flushing, Queens, New York until his death. In 1857 he was living at 67 Ave D, an address that today is sadly masked with graffiti. By 1860, Benjamin worked as an Iron worker for Morgan Iron Works (pictured) where he later became a superintendent, a position he held for 23 years.

In about 1843, Benjamin married Irish immigrant, Margaret Hughes and they had 6 known children.

Karl George Schaefer (1912-2004)

Karl George Schaefer Karl George Schaefer, a lifelong resident of Pleasant Valley, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital, after a brief illness. He was 92. Born on Aug. 3, 1912 on the family farm, he was the eldest son of the late Karl Rudolf August Schaefer and Marie Roehs Schaefer. He attended Shady Dell School on Netherwood Road, but left at the age of 14, when his father died in order to support his family. Although he only completed eight grades of formal education, he excelled at whatever he set his hand to. He was a gifted mechanic, a talented carpenter and a successful dairy farmer. On June 28, 1938, at City Hall in New York City, he married Helen Greene, who predeceased him. Together, they operated a dairy operation for twenty-five years and the farm became the locus of innumerable celebrations and gatherings for generations of both families. After Mr. Schaefer gave up farming, he went to work for Fargo Manufacturing, where he was an employee for sixteen years, rising to the position of assistant foreman, in the punch press department before his retirement in 1978. He was a charter member of West Clinton Fire Department, being instrumental in the founding of that organization. He was also a member of the Old Timers Club of Fargo retirees, and a past member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Schaefer was a sixty-five year member of the Fallkill Grange #882, in which he held various offices, including serving two terms as Master. He was also a member of Pomona State and National Granges and the Pleasant Plains Presbyterian Church. At home, he engaged in a lifelong passion for vegetable gardening, a practice he continued up until shortly before his death. He enjoyed reading, especially historical novels, and was also an avid devotee of crossword puzzles. His two grandsons were a particular pleasure for him and he felt fortunate to be able to visit with them frequently. Mr. Schaefer is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven E. and Barbara J. Schaefer of Hyde Park; Karl R. Schaefer and Vibeke R. Petersen of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandsons, Erich Schaefer of the Town of Clinton and Andrew Schaefer of Hyde Park; sisters, Elsie Schaefer Rack of Hyde Park; Rose Schaefer of Rhinebeck; a brother, Robert H. Schaefer of Hyde Park; a half-sister, and half-brother, Lorraine Lorey Erani of Pleasant Valley and Paul Lorey of West Berlin, N.J. In addition, he had numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him. A third sister, Clara Schaefer Henderson, predeceased him. A memorial service will be held on Dec. 11 at 11:00 a.m., at the Pleasant Plains Presbyterian Church, Hollow Rd., Staatsburg, with the Rev. David W. Hondorp officiating. Interment will be at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by making a donation to the charity of the mourner's choice or to the Celiac Sprue Association, in memory of Karl G. Schaefer. John Strong was born in Chard, Somerset, England to John and Eleanor Deane Strong. The Strong family originated in Shropshire, England.

John departed England in 1630 on the Mary and John to Nantasket, Massachusetts. He first resided in Dorchester, Massachusetts but later lived in Hingham, Taunton and Northampton, Massachusetts. He also resided for some time in Windsor, Connecticut.

In 1663, John was ordained as the first ruling Elder of the Northampton Church and held that office for 40 years. Pictured is a small memorial dedicated to him.

John was also a Tanner by trade.

He married Margery Deane, Abigail Ford and Elizabeth Charde. Between these wives, John had 18 known children!

Thomas I Count of Savoy (1176-1233)

Thomas was the son of Saint Blessed Humbert III of Savoy and Beatrix De Vienne and born in Carbonierres, Savoy, France. His birth was seen as a miracle after his monkish father had despaired of having a male heir after three wives. Humbert sought counsel from St. Anthelm who blessed Humbert three times. It was seen as a prophecy come true when Thomas, who was named after Saint Thomas Becket, was born just before Anthelm died.

Thomas married Beatrix De Geneva Faucigny and had a daughter, Beatrice of Savoy.

Johanna Schnell

Johanna was the wife of Elias Jacks and like her husband, born in Germany. Johanna and Elias arrived in the New York on May 4, 1883 and settled in Manhattan. In 1916, after the death of her husband, Johanna was living at 348 E. 77th Street.

Ebenezer Hoisington (1729-1804)

Ebenezer was born to John and Sarah Shailor Hoisington in Farmington, Connecticut. He was later part of the settlement of Windsor, Vermont and is recognized as one of the state's founders.

The flag next to his grave was earned during his service in the French and Indian War.

Ebenezer was a member on the Vermont Committee of Safety and Board of War for the Revolution. His leadership was crucial in the struggle for statehood.

David Rumsey Donovan (1915-1999)

David was born to William Joseph (Wild Bill) and Ruth R. Rumsey Donovan in Buffalo, New York. Like his father, he was very accomplished both in education and in the military. During World War II, David was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy and after the war he graduated from Harvard.

He is considered a World War II naval hero, as he commanded an advanced amphibious group in the invasion at Oran, helped in planning of the invasion of Sicily, and served on the Ancon, Admiral Hall's flagship, during the landing on Omaha Beach. En route home, he asked for and was given command of a salvage tug and pulled in four crippled warships, ending his service with four campaign medals. After resettling in Virginia as a cattle farmer, he sat on the Clarke County board of supervisors and served as county zoning administrator for nearly 20 years.

David married 3 times.

Orace Hoisington (1798-1881)

Affectionately referred to as Orrie, Orace was born to Orange and Asenith Bishop Hoisington in Windsor, Vermont. He married twice, one wife being Betsy Bryant and the other Joanna Staples. He lived a long life and had two known children.

Orace is buried in the Old South Cemetery in Windsor, Vermont.

Thomas Prince (1687-1758)

Reverand Thomas Prince was the 1st cousin, 10x removed of Linda Ann Cowdrick. He was a prominent figure in Boston, Massachusetts who studied at both Cambridge and Harvard College. He was a preacher at the Old South Church of Boston and was ordained in 1718.

He shares a reputation with Cotton Mather as being the most learned man in New England during the 18th Century.

In Middeltown, Daniel was Constable, Sherrif, Elder and organizer of the Dutch Church (pictured) and Captain of the militia. He died in 1728.

Urraca Alfonsez (1082-1126)

Urraca is the 31st great grandmother of Linda Ann Cowdrick. She was the daughter of Alfonso VI and Princess Contance de Bourgogne and reigned in 1107 over her dowry Galacia and Zamora after the death of her first husband Count Raimond de Bourgogne whom she married in Toledo, Spain. She died in Saldena, Spain during childbirth.

Urraca was also married to Alfonso I in 1109, but the marriage was soon annulled due to the fact that they were too closely related.

Sarah was the wife of Moses Beans Cowdrick and the 2nd cousin 5x removed in law to Linda Ann Cowdrick. She and Moses were prominent residents of Clearfield, Pennsylvania as Moses was one of the main bricklayers/masons of the town.

Moses and Sarah had 7 children, several of which were also bricklayers/masons.

Albert Martin Applegate was born in New Jersey to Timothy Tenbrook Applegate, the 2nd husband of Ellen Amanda Tice who was the 2nd great grandmother to Linda Ann Cowdrick.

Albert most commonly went by his middle name, as shown on his pictured gravestone. He was a carpenter by trade and about 1917 was working for Leroy J. Hutcheson. Albert married a woman by the name of Hazel.

Michael Henry Donovan was the 2nd Great Grandfather to Christopher Jens Metzger. He was born in 1861 to Irish immigrants, Timothy and Mary who settled in Buffalo, Erie, New York.

In about 1885, Michael married Mary A. Downey and they had 3 known children. In 1900 they lived at 74 Michigan Street in Buffalo, an address that unfortunately no longer exists.

Jesse C. Cowdrick was one of the more well known Cowdricks. He is the 2nd Cousin, 4x removed of Linda Ann Cowdrick. Jesse is known as an author of many of the Beadle and Adams stories.

Jesse started his career as a newspaper boy for the railroad and later became a station agent and telegrapher before becoming a writer. In 1889 he lived at 13 Seaman Avenue in Jersey City, NJ after marrying Jennie Tier. Jesse and Jennie had 7 known children.

He and his wife Johanna Schnell (pictured), along with their children, resided in Schlochau, WestpreuBen, Germany until their arrival to New York in 1893. Elias and Johanna had 6 known children. Their daughter, Hilda married Ernest Henry Rack, who's mother was Elizabeth Metzger (Christopher Jens Metzger's 2nd Great Grand Aunt).

In both Germany and in New York, Elias was a Bookbounder by profession.

Benajah was born to Richard and Elizabeth Adgate Bushnell in Norwich, New London, Connecticut. He married Zerviah Leffingwell and had two known children, Elizabeth and Benajah, the latter of which became a graduate of Yale University.

Benajah was a landowner and a prominent citizen of the town of Norwich, holding several titles in his lifetime such as Lieutanant, Captian, Treasurer and Deputy. He acted on behalf of the town and settled a boundary dispute at one point. As an active member of the Episcopal Church, Benajah gifted a lot of land to the Christ Church, which still stands today (pictured).

Abigail Powers is known to many as the First Lady of the United States to President Millard Fillmore, the 16th President of the United States. Abigail is also the 5th cousin 5x removed in law to Linda Ann Cowdrick, through the Hoisington line.

Abigail was born in Stillwater, Saratoga, NY to Lemeul Powers, a prominent Baptist reverand and his wife Abigail. She was well educated and a teacher who married Millard, both a student and two years her junior in 1826. Abigail was the first First Lady to ever hold a job after obtaining her title, as she did continue to teach.

Hendrick Onderdonk (1724-1809)

Hendrick Onderdonk was born in Jamaica, New York to Andries and Gertrude Lott Onderdonk. He married Phebe Tredwell in 1750. By 1770, Hendrick was very active in St. George's Church (pictured, c.1734). Such so, that in 1786 he was asked to represent the church at the Diocesan Convention. Two of his grandson's became Bishops.

Hendrick owned a Grist Mill (which supported the printing of the NY Mercury) and store in Roslyn, Hempstead, New York where he also owned a home. This home was robbed one night by British soldiers who were stationed at Herricks. Phebe chased after them and made sure they did not enter the rooms of where her daughter's slept.

According to the Nassau County Historical Society, in 1790, George Washington ate breakfast at Hendrick's home, which is now the core of the Washington Manor. George Washington noted in his diary that he was "kindly received and well entertained."

According to Bruce Murphy, a member of the family that currently owns the George Washington Manor, Onderdonk is believed to have financially supported Long Island’s Culper Spy Ring, which supplied Washington with intelligence during the Revolutionary War. He may also have sneaked secret messages about British activity from his paper mill to West Point.

Hendrick and Phebe are buried at Cows Neck, Hempstead, New York.

Hannah Stout Barkalow was the 4th Great Grand Aunt in Law of Linda Ann Cowdrick. She was born in Monmouth, NJ to Cornelius S. and Jedidah Errickson Barkalow and was the wife of Jesse Cowdrick. Hannah and Jesse had 6 known children, one of which was Delilah Cowdrick who's 1854 Forget Me Not book is now in possession by the Cowdrick family. In the mid 1850's Hannah and Jesse took over a mansion in Tom's River which later became known as the Ocean House and where a line of stages were established to carry mail between Freehold and Manhawkin, NJ.

Ruth E. Cowdrick is the 4th Cousin 2x Removed of Linda Ann Cowdrick. She was born in 1908 to Edward S. and Nellie A. Cowdrick in Colombia. Edward was a college graduate and in 1915 the Chief clerk to the president, assistant to president and vice president of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company- a very prominent position. It is most likely through is travels with his work that his daughter, Ruth was born in such an uncommon place within the Cowdrick family. Following in her father's footsteps, Ruth also became a college graduate, graduating form Barnard College (pictured) in 1929 and was a writer for the Barnard Bulletin.

James Edward Hoisington is the 3rd Great Grandfather of Linda Ann Cowdrick. He was born in 1826 to Orace and Betsy Bryant Hoisington in Windsor, Windsor, Vermont. He was a farmer who also grew wool (he owned 90 sheep) and had a fruit orchard of 500 trees. On his birthday, he died of Cerebral Thrombosis and is buried along with his wife, Lucia Ann Harlow and his children in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor, Vermont.

Regina Cook Cowdrick was born in Napoleon, Henry, Ohio to John Emmick and Sarah Amanda Clapp Cowdrick. She never married and in her 50's traveled to Southampton, England, Glasgow, Scotland and Quebec, Canada. The photo of Regina was taken from her 1924 passport application.

Regina was living in South Carolina at the time of her passport application and in 1936 she was an instructor at Anderson College of the same state.

Regina was also the author of Ethical, moral and spiritual training through literature which was published in 1920.

Her first marriage was to Raimond of Burgandy and her second marriage was to Alfonso I Perez de Aragon, however the marriage was annuled because they were too closely related.

Urraca had an illegitimate child with Count Pedro Gonzalez de Lara.

She died at the age of 44 during childbirth.

Leopold Schlesinger was an immigrant from Brotchizen, Germany and the father of Elmer Schlesinger, the husband of Cissy Patterson. Leopold and his friend, David Mayer, another German immigrant founded Schlesinger & Mayer, a dry goods merchant house in 1872 in Chicago, which is known for it's architecture. The entrance is pictured.

In 1873, Leopold married Henrietta Mayer and they had six children in all. Leopold died in California and is buried on the property of 1030 E. 48th St., owned by his son, Elmer.

Elmer Schlesinger was the 2nd husband of the well known Cissy Patterson. He was born in Chicago to Leopold and Henrietta Mayer Schlesinger. He graduated from the Harvard Law School in 1901 and was a Partner in the law firm Mayer, Meyer, Austrian and Platt. Elmer's known travels were to France and the Bahamas and he died in South Carolina at the young age of 48. The house pictured is known as the Patterson House and was owned by Mrs. Eleanor (Cissy) Schlesinger in Washington DC on Dupont Circle.

Elmer's first wife was Halle Schaffner and they had one daughter who was also named Halle.

Eleanor Josephine Medill Patterson, more commonly referred to as Cissy Patterson, was born to Robert Wilson Patterson and Eleanor Medill in Chicago. Cissy lead a very productive and prominent life, as she followed in her father's footsteps as the Editor for Washington Herald. She married and divorced twice. Her first husband was Count Josef Gizycki, who kidnapped their daughter Leonora while having marital problems. Their divorce struggle lasted 8 years. Cissy's second husband was Elmer Schlesinger. Cissy died at the age of 63 due to "cumulative effects of alcoholism."

Alton Aaron Cowdrick was the great grandfather of Linda Ann Cowdrick. He was born in Toms River, New Jersey, USA to Alton Aaron Cowdrick and Ellen Amanda Tice. He married Anna Keturah Hyers in 1904 and they had 7 children.

Alton worked as a draw bridge operator (under the Pennsylvania Railroad Company) on the Barnegat Pier, very close to where he lived on Bachelor Street in Germantown. Unfortunately, Alton died on the Pier by accidently falling. His fall resulted in a fractured skull and water in his lungs.

Bernard was a Civil War volunteer and veteran. He enlisted as a 7th Corporal in Company G, 20th Infantry Regiment of Iowa. He received a disability discharge from Company G, 20th Infantry Regiment of Iowa on 21 May 1865 at Mobile, AL. It is assumed he was wounded at the battle of Fort Blakely, which was the last battle of the Civil War.

While living in Iowa, Bernard worked as a Street Commissioner. After Bernard and Sarah had their first child, Elizabeth B., they relocated to Illinois where Bernard dealt in flower, feed, hay, straw and produce. They had 5 more children.

Charles William Heim is my 2nd Great Grandfather. He was born in College Point, Queens, New York to Charles William and Anna M. Reilly Heim. He lived his entire life in College Point, but was buried in Brooklyn at the Mount St. Mary's Cemetery.

Charles was Protestant and belonged to the Protestant Episcopal Church Membership with St.Paul's as early as 1906, when he married Caroline M. Clark in the St. Paul's Chapel.

Charles worked for many years for the Sanitation department, starting out as a Street Sweeper, but later becoming a Forman.
